Gordie Sampson – Almost Beautiful (Turtlemusik)

In a way, it’s unfortunate that Gordie Sampson’s solo work doesn’t garner the same attention that his song writing does. While you might tend to think that the two go hand-in-hand, his proper albums never seem to turn heads in the very same way that his songs have. Almost Beautiful, Sampson’s fourth solo record, sees him cover radio friendly pop with country undertones, proving he is indeed one of the finest songwriters to emerge from Atlantic Canada. Sounding whether at ease behind fun, upbeat tracks like Hurricane Jane or penning poignant ballads such as Tough Town and Fear of Flying, Sampson’s ability to deliver a world-class record versus an “East Coast” sounding one is truly remarkable. Now if only he can get some light shed on these terrific little records he is making, all will be right in the world.

‘Almost Beautiful’ – The Cape Breton Post

Gordie Sampson releasing country album ‘Almost Beautiful’ – Arts – The Cape Breton Post.

SYDNEY — Did Gordie Sampson ever think he’d be releasing his own country album?

“No,” is the short answer from the Big Pond singer-songwriter, who has divided his time between Cape Breton and Nashville, Tenn. for the last number of years.
He’s a respected, Grammy Award-winning songwriter for country stars like Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill and Keith Urban, but he’s also maintained a successful solo career as a roots-rock artist. Now, with a new album, “Almost Beautiful” set to be released July 26, Sampson is blending both of his musical worlds.

“Hurricane Jane” hits Canadian Country Radio

SpinCount is thrilled to be working with Gordie Samspon, and released his debut single, “Hurricane Jane” to Canadian Country Radio June 20.

Gordie Sampson – “Hurricane Jane” by SpinCount

Gordie Sampson’s worlds collide with the Canadian release of his new Country record, Almost Beautiful. Written with many of his long-time Nashville collaborators, the songs exemplify the kind of thoughtful and clever writing that has earned Sampson a Grammy award, multiple awards for his recordings and an international reputation as an outstanding songwriter. A musical chameleon, his production and performance slide easily into the contemporary Country music scene here at home, and in America. The musicianship on Almost Beautiful is superb, featuring Sampson himself, along with some of his fine Nashville musician friends. The first single, “Hurricane Jane” is a driving uptempo tune, reminiscent of Kid Rock’s foray into Country music. The songs are, by and large, more reflective and feel comfortingly familiar to fans. From September until May, Sampson lives and writes in Nashville, where he has become an established member of the community. Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Faith Hill are just a few American artists who have covered Sampson’s songs. In the summers, he heads back home to Canada to spend time with family and friends in his beloved Cape Breton and to perform in the Maritimes where audiences welcome him, year after year. Despite the rarity of his Canadian concerts, Sampson continues to find a home on Canadian radio and garner awards and nominations for his records.

Almost Beautiful is Sampson’s fourth release on turtlemusik.
