SINGLE REVIEW: Dierks Bentley “Bourbon In Kentucky”
Dierks’ new song Bourbon in Kentucky was just released off his next album, Riser, on Capitol Records Nashville, and is due this fall. The song written by Ryan Tyndell, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson features the vocals of country singer and songstress Kacey Musgraves.
I read that Bourbon in Kentucky is a homage to Bentley’s deceased father. This is a love song of a different kind. As with much of country’s lyrically great music, each listener will hear this song and it will hit home for each of us in a different and still very poignant way. “I’ve never heard anything like ‘Bourbon’ before,” Bentley says. “I really love the angst of it. I’ve been there before where you can’t drink your way through a heartache or a broken heart. There’s such an aggressive lonesomeness in this song.”
Bourbon in Kentucky takes you to a special place. Maybe a hard place to revisit. It will, no doubt, evoke memories of some kind of lonely for each of us. But it does so with a deep honesty that makes you want to listen and feel.
Summer’s almost here and Gordie will be heading back home to Cape Breton to visit family, play a few shows, and is hosting the 4th annual Gordie Sampson Songcamp!
Gordie flew home earlier this month to accept an Honorary Degree from Cape Breton University and played a few songs for the graduating class. You can check it out at www.cbu.ca/convocation. Also on the exciting news front, Gordie co-wrote and just produced the new single from Kree Harrison. “All Cried Out” was released last week following the last episode of American Idol where Kree was second runner-up.
Gordie’s summer dates are below. Please make special note of the Songcamp Circle. It’s a great opportunity to hear talented young songwriters – and, of course, to see Gordie! Guests will include returning campers Mo Kenney and Dylan Guthro, special guest Carmen Townsend, instructors Carleton Stone and Steven MacDougall, along with many new writers! Tickets are available at Doucette’s Variety and Home Hardware in Ingonish starting May 24th.
